Evening gown!?!

Happy Tuesday!!! If anyone has ever been to a chinese/asian wedding, you'll know that the bride usually changes 50million times with different outfits. I'm chinese so my family expects it.. Initially, I was going to wear my wedding dress.. since it's quite expensive and it's only worn once why not just wear it for the whole day!?! This idea did not sit well with my mum! So we negotiated down to changing once!

Has anyone seen a chinese dress/Cheongsam/Qipao before? Here's a pic!
It took us a good month to find a dress maker who could make this in Melbourne. During our first consultation with the dress maker, I told her what style I wanted. She recommended a bunch of places for the fabric. We went most of the places she recommended but couldn't find the traditional chinese silk fabric and if the fabric store did stock it in, it wasn't the colour I wanted. My mum then went to Springvale and to our surprise there was more variety there! I went the following week and found a colour I liked and here it is!!
The fabric is pinkish/purple with some cherry blossom looking patterns on it, fits right into my theme. My dress will hopefully look like the dress above.

Only thing left to organise is the flowers!

  4. Love the colour of the fabric! I bought a gorgeous black cheongsam for my year 12 formal when I was in Malaysia! They're so elegant looking.

  5. Ive never been to any kind of Asian wedding but I love the idea of multiple dress changes, lol.

That Cheongsam material is absolutely beautiful- so delicate, and the cherry blossoms are perfect.

I bought a cheap red cheongsam style dress from supre (!) back in the day to wear to my school disco. The material was sratchy and hot, and unfortunately I didnt realise my short and chubby body looked like a overstuffed sausage in that thing. Lol

  7. Oh, I love cheongsams, I actually wanted to pick one up in KL in December but they were all so pricy, so I figured I'd wait. And yes, you're right, they are absolutely gorgeous! I hope you'll post photos up when it's finished, I bet you'll look gorgeous!

Lol, when we went to my cousin's wedding the bride wore only her wedding dress, which sent the aunties a-chatter~

  12. Ooooh gorgeous fabric. I know what it was like to try and negotiate the evening gown change but you will not regret it. I was dying to get out of my white gown by six pm! It was just too much. The qipao is a very elegant garment. You will look really beautiful I am sure, but do show us pics yeah?

  15. Hi Kerker, thanks for stopping by my blog. I'm chinese and also getting married in the near future. I had exactly the same thought as you-wearing my wedding dress all day since it would be my most expensive clothing purchase. Anyway, I saw a friend who wore a qipao at her reception and thought it looks great. Now i am considering getting mine made in China and getting it sent over. Would be great if you can continue blogging about your Qipao making progress.
